More accurately, it requires lots of hit-&-miss experience.

As of May 2001, the last I saw such a system was January 2001. Not long ago at all.

... -i.6.1
Why the two formats? The .tar.gz format is more common, but I prefer the .cpio.bz2 format, so I've decided to distribute both. Why do I prefer the second format? Because bzip2 compresses better than gzip & because cpio is more fun to use than tar.

... versions.10.3
If you're a Lisp programmer, you're saying ``I've seen that before in the Common Lisp function make-pathname & its related functions''. Yes, you have. That's exactly the kind of portable filename interface I'm getting at, & that's exactly where I got the idea.

... programs.10.4
Other people call them ``shell scripts''. I refuse to distinguish between a script & a program. Call me silly. I won't try to change your definitions if you won't try to change mine.
